Lisbon Travel Guide
Pastel hills, Atlantic light, and Europe’s sunniest capital.
Lisbon charms with tiled facades, rattling trams, fresh seafood and golden riverside light — all at gentler prices than most of Western Europe. It is safe, walkable and one of the continent’s top digital-nomad and solo-travel bases.

Is Lisbon safe?
General safety
One of Europe’s safest capitals, with very low violent crime. The main nuisance is pickpocketing on tram 28 and in crowded tourist spots — keep valuables zipped and aware.
Solo female travellers
Excellent for solo female travellers — relaxed, friendly and easy to navigate alone, including at night in central districts. Standard pickpocket awareness is all you need.
LGBTQ+ travellers
Very LGBTQ-friendly. Portugal has full marriage equality and strong protections, and the Príncipe Real district is the heart of a welcoming scene.
Safety guidance is general and can change — always check your government’s latest travel advice before you go.
